<notes>Introduction

AFFF is a synthetic, film-forming foam designed for use in shipboard fire-fighting systems. The AFFF extinguisher generates a white foam blanket that extinguishes fire by cooling and isolation from Oxygen.

AFFF has the ability to make a lightwater film that floats on top of flammable fuels. This make it appropriate for liquid fuel fires (type B or type F)
As foam is applied over the flammable liquid surface, it seal it and isolates it from Oxygen. This aqueous film enhances extinguishment and prevents reflash, even
when the foam blanket is disturbed. Fuels which have not been ignited may also be protected with this same
action.

AFFF can also be used for Solid Fuel Fires (type A) where it operates in a manner similar to water

AFFF can be used alone or in combination with Purple-K-Powder (PKP).</notes>

 <notes>AFFF usage

In an AFFF extinguisher, the solution is already in place containing 8.6 lt of water and 0.4 lt AFFF. The extinguisher is pressurized with air of 10 bar pressure. To use it we need to …
•	Ensure air pressure gauge shows 10 bar
•	We approach the fire in a safe distance and remove the safety pin.
•	In a class A fire we shoot towards the top of the fire, trying to “lower” it
•	In a class B or F liquid fuel fire, we guide the released foam towards the center of the fire

At 10 bar, the extinguisher can shoot at 7.5 m max and for 50 secs approximately</notes>

 <notes>Wet chemical fire extinguisher

Extinguishers such as Water, Foam, Powder & CO2 will not always put out big cooking fires and are also extremely dangerous because the pressure of these extinguishers can cause the oil to jet out and cause serious harm.

Therefore, for type F, fat and oil fires, the most suitable, are the Wet Chemical Fire Extinguishers.
•	Alternatively, they can also be used for type Ei, Solid Fuel fires.

Wet chemical Fire Extinguishers, contain a solution of potassium and carbonated calcium, that attacks flame in two ways.
1.	By cooling. The produced mist, cools the fire and lowers the temperature, thus stopping the fire from spreading, but also preventing splashing of the hot oils or fat.
2.	By isolating. The mixture reacts with the hot oil, coating the surface of the cooking oil or fat, with non combustible soapy foam, thus isolating oxygen from the burning fuel.</notes>
